Allen Dyer is a psychiatrist and medical educator who also studied Michael Polanyi’s thought and earned a Ph.D at Duke University; for 50 years, he has been deeply involved in public discussions about psychiatry, contemporary politics and culture and ethics.
Dyer’s recent book Madness and the Political Divide is a rich reflection that draws on Polanyi and raises many interesting questions about madness, politics and contemporary culture. This Zoom Session will use as a resource Dyer’s chapter “Madness and the Moral Inversion” (Pre-publication copy). Discussion will open with brief remarks by Dyer and a comment by ethicist Paul Lewis.
Anyone interested can participate. Register for the session by sending an e-mail to Phil Mullins (mullins@missouriwestern.edu). As in earlier recent Zoom sessions, Gus Breytspraak (gus.breytspraak@ottawa.edu) will send to registrants a couple of e-mail notices with the link in the week of this session as well another link for the recording of the session afterward. We will also post the link for the session on the Polanyi Society website during the week in which the session occurs. Send any questions or suggestions to Phil Mullins and Gus Breytspraak.
